Summary
The aim of the program is to optimise strategies for urban nature development and its functions with a focus on the quality of life for city dwellers and the evaluation from an interdisciplinary point of view. Scenarios will take into account the profound changes of climate, city shrinking, and the demographic and economic developments with all its consequences for nature and environment in metropolitan areas. Four integrating clusters will focus on streets, new urban landscapes after deconstructing apartment blocks, intermediate use of brownfields, and the relationships between urban nature and the well-being of city dwellers. Built-up areas have to be investigated as well as developing open space. The microscale of test plots, the mesoscale of the surrounding quarters and the macroscale of Greater Berlin have to be taken into account. Finally, the program likes to introduce its experience in the international discussion on the theory of urban ecology.
