Outline:

Optimizing urban nature development - Dynamic change of nature functions and the urban environment of city dwellers

Within the scope of the interdisciplinary Research Training Programme, which is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)
have been granted since 1st of April 2008.

The Research Training Group is a corporate project of the three Universities of Berlin (HU, TU and FU) and the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. The aim of the Research Training Group is to work out strategies for optimizing the development of urban nature and their functions concerning the quality of life of the city dwellers, and to evaluate them in an interdisciplinary way. Therefore drastic transformations like climate change, shrinking cities and demographic as well as economic developments and their consequences for the environment and the nature in metropolis are considered in scenarios.

The Research Training Group is positioned in the Institute of Geography of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The grant holders are bound for a permanent residence; an active participation in the collective work of the Research Training Group is obligatory. The Study Programme consists of interdisciplinary seminars, research colloquiums, workshops and excursions. Information about the general objectives of Research Training Groups are presented on the homepage of the DFG.
